Labour Member of the European Parliament, Joseph Muscat, has been elected vice-president of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee.
The Maltese representative was nominated by the Group of European Socialists and was unanimously elected.
Joseph Muscat is the first Maltese to hold a similar post in a European Parliament committee. He is also to youngest member ever to be elected to this committee.
The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament covers policies relating to the Economic and Monetary Union, the euro, competition rules, taxation and financial services.
