Tenor George Saliba, accompanied on the piano by Tony Sammut, will once again take part in the next Lunchtime Concert on Wednesday.
He will be presenting a vocal recital of Neapolitan songs and operatic arias.
The Lunchtime Concert, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, will be held at the Music Room, St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta.
The performance starts at 12.30pm and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Tickets at Lm1 for adults, and Lm0.50 for children under 12 and persons over 60, can be purchased from the booking office at the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, telephone 2122-3200 (opening from 10am to 9pm daily).
George Saliba, will be interpreting a selection of well-known authentic Neapolitan songs and operatic arias, including En fermant les yeux by Manon-Jules Massenet, Elegie by Jules Massenet, La spagnola by Vincenzo di Chiara, Quanto e bella from L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, Malia by Francesco Paolo Tosti, Bixio’s Mamma, and My heart and I by Tauber.
George Saliba started his early voice training with soprano Bice Ciappara, and furthered his studies with soprano Alice Horne at the Johann Strauss School of Music. He is currently under the direction of Claire Massa. George gave a number of concerts as a tenor soloist, and had the opportunity to participate in vocal master classes in Brighton. He has performed the first-act duet from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, with Japanese Soprano, Moeka Yonoyama, and has recently pursued a Corso di Perfezionamento with vocal pedagogue Blagovesta Karnobatlova Dobreva in Sofia.
Although Tony Sammut’s favourite line of music is accompaniment, he is also a pianist, composer, and arranger. He enjoys playing both light and classical music. Tony has performed with various band leaders in Malta, playing pop and jazz, and was the resident pianist of the Malta Song Festival. He was also personal pianist of the Australian entertainer, Rolf Harris, during his stay in Malta. Tony is a member of the non-profit making German association, Music in Management, which organises inter-cultural events in Malta and other countries in Europe. Tony has also participated in various festivals as a composer.
