An 800-strong audience packed the Sir Temi Zammit Auditorium of the University of Malta recently for the Sliema Youth Big Band in Concert conducted by Mro Sigmund Mifsud.

Main protagonists were Ludwig Galea with his personal interpretation of Robbie Williams’ Angels and a modernised version of Domenico Modugno’s Volare; Claudia Faniello interpreted Madonna’s You’ll See; vocalist and percussionist Daniel Cauchi performed Feel of Robbie Williams and from Voices, performers Lello Ebejer with Steve Wonder’s Sir Duke; Louisa Wirth and Petra Micallef supported by backing vocalists sang Alan Mekin’s Beauty and the Beast, Fame by Gore Pitchford and Elton John’s Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King.

The concert reached its climax with all the performers singing together as encore the famous Queen’s We are the Champions, and the whole ensemble finally gave a modern and lively rendition of Cardenio Botti’s Inno Sliema.
