Labour MP Gavin Gulia yesterday called on the Data Protection Commissioner to investigate how judicial letters filed in court ended up at the Justice Ministry for verification without permission from those who filed them.
In a statement, Dr Gulia referred to a recent issue that was raised in parliament by another Labour MP, Dr Anglu Farrugia, who claimed that a number of judicial letters which were filed in court, were transferred from the Law Courts to the Justice Ministry.
He said this breached the Data Protection Act especially since it seems that permission was not sought by the Law Court Director General or the Court Registrar before these official documents were removed from the court registry. He said these actions are a threat to the country’s internal security and the Justice Ministry should be ashamed that, as the ministry responsible for the country’s internal security, it was the recipient of these official documents.
