As part of Microsoft’s corporate social responsibility activities, the leading IT company has helped BirdLife Malta to change their entire IT system.

Microsoft has provided Windows XP Operating Systems and MS Office Professional systems to equip the new network at the BirdLife Office in Ta’ Xbiex. The network and technology is helping BirdLife to collect essential data which will lead directly to targeted and effective conservation initiatives.

Pierre Mallia, business development manager of Microsoft Malta said: “We are happy to help BirdLife Malta in their conservation efforts. We see this support as an integral part of our corporate social responsibility programme. We hope that BirdLife through this support will be better able to do their admirable work in connection with the conservation of Malta’s bird species. Furthermore, we believe that commercial companies like Microsoft, have an important role to help contribute to improving our environment by supporting the work of local NGOs.”

The much needed support from Microsoft will also allow BirdLife Malta to manage the technology supported projects, such as satellite monitoring of seabird species and digital mapping, of new conservation projects. These projects will act as a blueprint for environmental management for all the Special Protected Areas (SPAs) listed in Malta, the NGO said.

“We thank Microsoft for their generous contribution to BirdLife Malta’s new conservation projects. These complex projects not only require qualified staff but also the best available technology in the world. This kind of financial and in kind support is crucial for NGOs like BirdLife Malta in order for them to carry out professional projects which are at the forefront of environmental conservation in Malta,” BirdLife Malta president Joseph Mangion said.
