The General Workers’ Union is against the fact that foreign workers are being employed instead of Maltese workers at the Valletta Gateway terminal and the union has asked the Employment and Training Corporation to investigate.
The case centres around the engagement of two Filipino workers who were supposedly brought to Malta to teach.
The union said that Maltese workers should be brought up to speed on how to operate the machinery so they can start to use it instead of foreigners.
The union said that if the company’s management does not adopt this position, it would order industrial action.
