Nearly 400 families in Iklin will benefit from a project to replace pavements in 12 streets. The project will cost Lm107,000.

The project will be financed by the Department of Housing Construction and Maintenance, within the Family and Social Solidarity Ministry, over a six-year period, beginning from 2007.

The work will be carried out by the local council.

Minister Dolores Cristina yesterday presented the letter of commitment to Anthony Dalli, Iklin mayor. Minister Cristina spoke about the significance of cooperation between the main government bodies and the local councils, saying that it was only in this manner that the community could obtain the best service possible.

“The government can input resources, both financial and human, whereas the local council best knows the needs of the inhabitants of the area.

“Projects like this, while perhaps not appearing to be of particular relevance, in fact underline the importance of the existence of positive exchanges between the two bodies,” Minister Cristina continued.

“The government has continued to invest steadily in developing and bettering communities within Malta whether it be through housing developments, opening new gardens and recreational areas.”

Minister Cristina congratulated the Iklin Local Council for the commitment it has put into this project and wished the council future success in other projects.

The project will come to an end in 2012. Pavements will be changed in: Triq Anton Buttigieg, Triq Guze Bonnici, Triq Guze Ellul Mercer, Triq Dun Karm (parts of), Triq Censu Busuttil (parts of), Triq Pietru Pawl Saydon, Triq Guze Pesci, Trejqet il-Poeti, Trejqet ir-Rumanzieri, Triq Patri Anastasi Cuschieri, Triq Anton Manuel Caruana, and Pjazza Ninu Cremona.
