A Briton is to be sentenced in the coming days after pleading guilty to two counts of theft.

John Paul Woods, 26, told the court, through his lawyer Martin Fenech, that he wanted to be sent back to prison as he could not cope with his drug addiction outside the institution’s walls.

Woods pleaded guilty to stealing over Lm1,000 worth of items from the International Marine Centre sometime between 26 and 29 January.

He also pleaded guilty to causing up to Lm50 in damage during the burglary. He also pleaded guilty to stealing a chaser from inside a vehicle on 12 February and of handling stolen property. He was also accused of relapsing.

Police Inspector Anthony Portelli said that the accused cooperated with the police and also that he had told him that he wanted to go back to prison. Insp. Portelli said the reason that Woods gave him was that he had a severe drug addiction problem and that he did not have the will to stay clean on his own. Dr Fenech was of the same conviction, and requested that the court recommends that he enrols in a drug rehabilitation programme.

He also requested the court to impose the minimum jail term. The court, presided over by Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is set to pass judgment.
