An eight-year-old German girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car in Bugibba early yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, the police said the accident took place at around 12.15pm in Triq it-Turisti when the girl was hit by a Peugeot 205 being driven by a 46-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay.

The girl was given first aid by a doctor who happened to be in the area and she was later rushed to St Luke’s Hospital where she was treated for the injuries she had sustained. The police said she was found to be in critical condition.

Duty Magistrate Audrey Demicoli was informed about the case. She appointed a number of court experts to assist her with the magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are still under way.
