The programmed activities for the Nadur Carnival kicked off on Friday with Zoo Comes to Nadur, in St Peter and St Paul Square where, for the first time, a large tent has been set up to host the main events.

It proved to be an opportune decision because activities could still be held despite the adverse weather conditions that prevailed.

On Saturday the Miss Nadur Carnival 2007 contest was held at the MBC Theatre. The winners were Stephanie Said as Miss Nadur Carnival and Stephanie Zammit as Miss Malta Carnival and National Queen Carnival.

This was followed by a rock concert under the tent by the groups Fire and Boot Led Zeppelin,and by Ira Losco and her band.

The 13th edition of the Nadur Organised Carnival was held on Sunday. It included competitions, dancing and comedy acts including Sur Gawdenz, id-Dulli, Joe Demicoli, Majsi and Zoo, ending with the traditional kukkanja. This was the first edition to be held on a stage, with no floats, and under a tent.

The council and the organising committee are now busily planning logistics for traffic arrangements and safety measures for this weekend’s Spontaneous Carnival starting on Friday and ending on Tuesday after sunset.

Other events are a carnival costume party on Thursday at 9pm at the Mnarja Band Club, with DJ Joe Spiteri, and a Children’s Carnival on Friday at 12.30pm at the Nadur Primary School.

In another first, the Nadur council will hold open days at Ta’ Sopu and Ta’ Kenuna towers and the wartime shelter at St Peter and St Paul Square. Entrance on Saturday and Sunday will be free of charge, while patrons will also given a 10 per cent discount for meals at some restaurants when presenting the Carnival flier.
