Former Malta Labour Party MP Sandro Schembri Adami was yesterday given a suspended sentence after being found guilty of tampering with notarial deeds.

Magistrate Anthony Vella ruled that the former MP was guilty of tampering with notarial deeds to the detriment of Alfred Gauci et on 3 August 2004, Yvonne Fenech et on 10 July 2004 and Eileen Agius et on 25 June 2004.

He was also found guilty, as a public official, of having altered the scripts within the deeds to reflect facts that did not exist as well as falsifying public deeds and making use of them for his own advantage.

Magistrate Vella said that this was a case which involved the forging of signatures, falsification of stamps and the forgery of a public notary’s signature as well as the use of the said documents.

The court handed down a two-year prison sentence suspended for four years and also ordered perpetual interdiction on Schembri Adami.

Police Inspector Joseph Cordina prosecuted.
