A Moroccan man was yesterday sentenced to five months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to assaulting police officers and damaging police property in a cell.

Abdelghani El Jamoudi, 32, pleaded guilty to assaulting various members of the Police Corps on 15 February in Valletta at 2:30am.

He was also accused of threatening officers, refusing to obey police orders and of causing between Lm50 and Lm500 in damage to a police cell.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace.

The court, presided over by magistrate Silvio Meli sentenced the accused to five months’ imprisonment at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

Police inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted while Dr Renzo Porcella Flores appeared for the accused.
