Two promising young pianists will be giving a piano recital at the next Lunchtime Concert in the Music Room of the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta. Fourteen-year-old Christine Marie Borg and 11-year-old Michela Galea will be interpreting a series of piano duets and solo pieces from various composers. The concert, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, will take place on Wednesday.
The performance starts at 12.30pm and lasts about 30 minutes. Tickets at Lm1.00 and 50c each for children under 12 and persons over 60 can be purchased from the Booking Office at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, Tel: 2122 3200 (opening hours from 10am to 9pm daily).
Christine Marie Borg will be performing Beethoven’s Sonata in G, and Rossini’s Petite Caprice, whilst Michela Galea will be performing Sonata in F by Mozart and Chopin’s Etude No 5. Together they will be performing three duets, namely Poulenc’s Sonata, Malaguena by E. Lecuona, and the famous Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 by Liszt.
Christine Marie started her piano studies at the age of five under the direction of Ms M’Dolores Amodio Chircop. She has passed Grade 7 and Advanced Level for Duets, of The Royal Schools of Music, with distinction, winning the Board Prize at Grade 7. She has also attended master classes with Mro Franco Fodera, Mro Marco Podesta and with Nina Vinagradova-Biek, who strongly encouraged her to continue her career as a pianist.
Christine has participated in various concerts and competitions, namely the Stradivari Competition in 2004, and the 6th Young Musicians Contest in 2005. Last July, she won the Primo Premio in the Duet category in a competition held at Mazara del Vallo, in Sicily. Christine is keen on developing her talents further and plans to take her studies beyond Diploma level.
Michela has been studying the piano since she was five years old under the tutorship of Ms M’Dolores Amodio Chircop. She has passed all her examinations up to an Advanced Level of the Royal School of Music with distinction. Michela has also attended master classes with Mro Franco Fodera and Mro Marco Podesta, who all recommended her for a scholarship abroad for junior students.
She has performed in several concerts and competitions both in Malta and abroad, including the Stradivari – Lufthansa Competition in 2004 and the sixth Young Musicians Contest in 2005 organised by the Malta Society of Arts. Michela made her debut abroad in 2006 at the age of 10 in Mazara del Vallo at the 1° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’, where she won the Primo Premio Assoluto as a soloist and Primo Premio in duet. Michela is currently preparing for her A.Mus LCM Diploma under the tutorship of Ms Stephanie Quintano Lauri.
