The First Hall of the Civil Court has turned down a request for the presentation of official documents of the Cabinet of Ministers in court.

The court, presided over by Madam Justice Abigail Lofaro, denied the request of 12 former employees of the Malta Electricity Board, now Enemalta Corporation.

The case goes back to 7 January 1969 and 10 March 1970, when the Malta Electricity Board was founded and it was decided that its employees receive a similar pension to that of civil servants.

By means of their court case, the former employees, who are being represented by lawyer Ian Spiteri Bailey, are arguing that they do not receive such a pension and this 37-year-old anomaly has not yet been solved.

While they requested that minutes of the Cabinet of Ministers’ meetings be presented in court, Madam Justice Lofaro ruled that the law does not provide for the presentation of official documents such as these, in court.

By means of this decision, the court upheld an application filed by Principal Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Godwin Grima, to refuse the possibility of the minutes being presented in court.
