New Logo for Malta Council for Culture and the Arts

Malta Independent Friday, 23 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said the restructuring of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts has already led to excellent results, including the holding of a festival of Maltese art, Notte Bianca and two workshops called ArtsCafe and ArtSkills.

The next step was the creation of a new logo, which was made public during a news conference.

The logo is the result of a public call made last year for artists to submit designs, but although the response was encouraging none of the logos submitted was up to standard. The council therefore commissioned artistic designer Aldo Gatt, a Maltese who lives abroad, to come up with one.

Mr Gatt submitted various proposals, and the choice fell on a design of a windmill which represents energy, creativity, innovation, continuity and is also linked with the economic development of the country, the Department of Information said yesterday.

Dr Zammit Dimech said the logo personified all the council’s political criteria.
