The Ghana Mission Foundation sent the sum of $100,200 for works carried out on the building of the Sir Luigi Preziosi health centre in Kumasi, Ghana.

The foundation said half of the sum was paid by an anonymous donor who promised to pay 50 per cent of the bills received by the foundation in connection with the health centre up to Lm150,000.

The building of the centre in Ghana is a project of the International Catholic Programme for Evangelisation (ICPE). It is also one of the 100 projects chosen by Pope John Paul II to mark the new millennium.

ICPE is an organisation of lay missionaries, set up in Malta in 1985 by Mario and Anna Cappello with the aim of evangelising the world. Today ICPE is present in all continents, running schools of evangelisation and doing mercy missions in several third world countries, one of which is Ghana.

To help ICPE with this project, the Ghana Mission Foundation was set up. The aims of the foundation are to create, promote and assist in the development of an awareness of the project for the specific reason of raising money for its realisation and also to ensure that the spending of the money is in accordance with the purpose for which they were raised.

The sum of Lm65,000 was collected last year, mainly by a fund raising activity organised by the Ghana Mission Foundation in February/March.

To organise the fund raising activity and to run its office at Media Centre, the Ghana Mission Foundation spent about Lm11,500. Besides this, the sum of Lm8,000 was spent by ICPE on a number of visits to Ghana to survey works being done on the health centre.
