Local cable television company Melita Cable and the Football Association Premier League have filed a judicial protest in court against a satellite systems service provider over the transmission rights of English Premier League matches.

In the protest, filed by Melita Cable and the Football Association Premier League in the First Hall of the Civil Court, the company and the association alleged that the owner of Flutisat is selling cards that offer the possibility for the transmission of English Premier League matches.

Melita Cable claimed that it is the only local licence holder for the transmission of these matches, following an agreement it signed with The Football Association Premier League.

By way of the protest, the company is also stating that the business of such cards for satellite systems is also proving to be harmful to local football.

The Football Association Premier League and Melita Cable plc are holding Flutisat responsible for damages.

Dr Henri Mizzi signed the protest.
