The government has spent more than Lm116,000 in projects to upgrade roads in Santa Lucija, Roads and Urban Development Minister Jesmond Mugliett said yesterday.

Speaking during an on-site visit at the locality, Minister Mugliett said that Dawret it-Torri was one of the roads which was being upgraded after it was included in the list of residential roads which will be upgraded by 2008. He said this road was part of the ring road on the outskirts of Santa Lucija and saw a large volume of traffic on a day-to-day basis. Moreover, large and heavy trucks used this road regularly.

Mr Mugliett said the upgrading work on this road would not only improve the standard of living of Santa Lucija residents, it would also be beneficial to the locality as a whole.

The project will also see the extension of the present promenade which will now measure some 800 metres. This work, along with other work at Oleandri Avenue will cost Lm67,000, he said.
