Man Jailed for two years for acquiring stolen motorbike

Malta Independent Saturday, 24 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A 38-year-old man was jailed for two years after he pleaded guilty to acquiring a stolen bike more than seven years ago.

Simon Chircop from Gzira was found guilty of acquiring the motorbike, a Piaggio, on 29 October 1999. He was also found guilty of relapsing.

Handing down her judgement, Magistrate Doreen Clarke took into consideration the fact that although the man had admitted to the charges brought against him, he did so a number of years after his arraignment.

The court also took note of the man’s criminal history, which shows that he was found guilty of various offences, including theft, over the years.

The time spent in preventative custody will be deducted from Chircop’s two-year jail term

Police Inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted.
