A 32-year-old man was given a six-month jail term suspended for two years after he admitted he assaulted and seriously injured an elderly man on Thursday afternoon.

Before Magistrate Anthony J. Vella, Jesmond Micallef from St Venera, pleaded guilty to seriously injuring 65-year-old Michele Angelo Aquilina from Marsa.

Micallef was accused of assaulting Mr Aquilina in an incident that appears to have been triggered off by an argument that had taken place between them the previous day.

The accused also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted, while Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Deborah Delceppo appeared for the accused.
