The teams (teachers, pupils and parents) of Once Upon A Blog – a school in Ireland and the Saint Joseph Mater Boni Consilii School, Paola were proclaimed runners-up of the 4 - 11 year old classification at the second Annual eTwinning Awards ceremony held in Brussels on Friday.

The winning project was “Gingerbread House” a project between a school in Slovakia – Základná škola Omšenie and a school in the Czech Republic – Základní škola a mateøská škola Sivice.

The Irish school is St Attracta’s SNS.

The conference eTwinning 2007 is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Brussels and comes to an end today with a speech by Jan Figel, the Commissioner for education, formation and the culture and youth.

The Maltese and Irish entry created a web-log through which the young students spoke to each other about the legends and myths of the two islands with stories (in English), podcasts, photos and drawings. Thus, they could discover a culture different from theirs, react to it, ask questions, etc.

The 13 to 15 category was won by Eurofilm Factory, created by Spanish and Lithuanian schools, who created a guide on what to do to create a film.

The 16 to 19 section was won by Wir, die Jugendlichen von heute (We, the young people of the future), an Italian and Finnish project.
