With less than two weeks to go before the 10 March local council elections, and with the publication of the latest Xarabank survey, which showed for the first time since the surveys were taken that Labour leader Alfred Sant is now heading Lawrence Gonzi in direct popularity, tension is mounting.

And more so in Gozo where a number of elections take place on 10 March.

One of the most keenly fought contests is in small Munxar, the village next to Xlendi.

Labour have so far made the running as they have campaigned about splits in the PN majority and the construction of an illegal cement road on Ta Sanap cliffs.

The PN website, Maltarightnow, claimed yesterday that Labour is trying to turn the electoral balance in the village by “importing” around 20 voters from other districts.

The website claimed that 20 people applied to change their residency to Munxar but the court, on the PN appealing against such a move, has rejected 18 of these applications.

In a comment on the website, PN secretary general Joe Saliba said that 18 votes can change the majority in the locality.
