Malta Independent Sunday, 25 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The recently set up Maltese-Polish Friendship Society is planning to take a more proactive role in the coming months by organising activities that will strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries and to popularise knowledge about life in Malta and Poland.

The idea of the society is the brainchild of three Polish ladies who have settled in Malta and want to encourage the flow of the cultural activities from both countries. Led by an organising committee made up of Aurelia Brockdorff, Karolina Dreliszak and Aneta Turek-Saliba, the society aims to provide a central point of contact for Poles living in Malta.

On Saturday 10 March, pianist Danuta Mroczek-Szlezer and violinist Mieczyslaw Szlezer will be giving a concert at in the Music Room of St James Cavalier They will play sonatas by two Polish composers Grazyna Bacewicz and Karol Szymanowski, and another sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Tickets are Lm4. After the 70-minute concert, patrons will be invited to meet the two musicians in St James’ Main Hall during a vin d’honneur presented by Marsovin.

As a first step, all Poles in Malta are being invited to contact the Maltese-Polish Friendship Society in the coming days. More information about the society can be obtained from www.tpmp.org or via mobile number 9949 4646.
