On Easter Sunday 8 April, the Manoel Theatre will be hosting one of its artistic highlights for this season, when the Royal Danish Ballet, the resident corps de ballet of the Royal Danish Theatre, will be giving a unique performance which will include highlights from classical and contemporary ballet.
The Danish Royal Ballet is one of Europe’s best ballet companies and this performance will indeed be an opportunity not to be missed.
The programme will feature choreography by Denmark’s most famous choreographer, August Bournonville. Bournonville is considered by many as the father of Danish ballet. Under Bournonville it rose from its humble 18th-Century origins to a fully-fledged professional ballet company. To pay tribute to this great choreographer, the Danish Royal Ballet will be performing Act 3 from Napoli, a ballet extravaganza which highlights Bournonville’s style.
The third act is considered to be the champagne of Danish ballet, full of sparkling exuberance and colour. There will also be works by Tchaikovsky, Balanchine and Tim Rushton, making the evening a veritable showcase of choreographic gems.
The Danish Royal Ballet is being brought to Malta through the joint effort of the Maltese Embassy in Copenhagen and the Danish Arts Council. It marks an important step in strengthening cultural relations between Malta and Denmark. Tickets are on sale from the Manoel Theatre booking office which can be contacted by phone on 2124-6389 or by email on [email protected].
