A 3,000-strong audience is expected for Joseph Calleja’s July concert in Mdina, which will be a performance of duets between the internationally-acclaimed tenor and his wife, soprano Tatiana Lisnic. The music for the concert will be played by the Orchestra of the Americas and conducted by Brian Schembri.
The concert has major sponsorship by HSBC Malta. “Renaissance Productions Ltd (RPL) is once again privileged to be associated with HSBC Malta as a major sponsor of the Joseph Calleja July 2007 concert,” said Dr Anton Tabone from RPL.
Joseph Calleja is one of the world’s youngest leading tenors. He has given performances around the world and obtained ecstatic reviews. Following his 1997 debut, Calleja won the Belvedere Competition in Vienna and in 1998, the Caruso Competition in Milan.
In 2004, he debuted at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich as Rodolfo in La Boheme and Covent Garden as the Duke in Rigoletto.
His debut CD Tenor Arias was praised by critics across the world, and his release The Golden Voice has also won rave reviews.
Joseph is a much sought-after voice with the leading opera houses in Europe.
Last October, he also made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
He already has two solo albums, and a recording contract with top classical record label Decca.
