Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La Forza del Destino will be performed at the Aurora Theatre on 13 October, with the participation of the National Orchestra under the baton of Mro Colin Attard.
La Forza del Destino will be the 27th opera to be staged at the theatre during its 30-years of existence. The first opera to be staged at the theatre – and in Gozo – was Puccini’s Madam Butterfly on 7 January 1977. This masterpiece was crucial in rekindling an interest in operatic productions in the Maltese islands.
The theatre has a total capacity of 1,400 seats. It was designed and decorated by the late Chevalier Emvin Cremona and is considered by some to be one of his finest works.
Preparations for the forthcoming production are being coordinated by a special sub-committee appointed by the newly elected Leone Philharmonic Society central committee.
La Forza Del Destino will be officially launched at a news conference, at which details will be given about the production team, and the local and international artists participating in the production.
