MSC Orchestra, soon to join MSC Cruises’ fleet, will be another jewel in the crown of the company’s fast expanding and modern fleet. It will shortly be ready to cruise the seas and spread worldwide the elegance of the Italian styled cruise company.
MSC Orchestra will be christened in the port of Civitavecchia on 14 May. She is the second of the ‘Musica’ class, replicating the high standards of construction already utilised by MSC Cruises and setting the benchmark for the larger ships in the fleet.
She has a tonnage of 90,000 grt, a length of 293 metres and a width of 33 metres, enabling her to host 3,013 guests. As the sistership to MSC Musica and MSC Poesia, MSC Orchestra presents herself as an innovative ship, able to guarantee an excellent level of comfort and well-being with impeccable service in an exclusive atmosphere.
MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra, have signalled the birth of a new type of cruise liner. On board, space and location of the various public areas have been optimised in order to provide an excellent ratio between passenger capacity and onboard facilities.
To satisfy passenger demand, 80 per cent of the outside cabins have balconies and sea views. The 22,000 sq metres of public space offer a large choice of facilities for all activities: five Restaurants (L’Ibiscus, Villa Borghese, La Piazzetta, Four Seasons, Shanghai Chinese Restaurant), 10 bars, two of which are open-air, and three meeting and conference rooms, plus lots more.
Despite the dimensional growth of these new units, MSC Cruises’ philosophy remains focused on offering a first quality service. Particular attention has been paid to the daily contact between guests and crew and to the maximum level of products and gastronomic services.
The planning of the public areas was assigned to Studio De Jorio Design International. The objective is to blend the interior design and choice of colours with the architectural and technical brief.
The MSC Cruises fleet consists of eight ships: the flagship MSC Musica, MSC Sinfonia, MSC Opera, MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica, MSC Melody, MSC Rhapsody and the MSC Orchestra (to be launched in May). MSC Cruises offers Mediterranean itineraries year-round, as well as cruises in Northern Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, South America, Indian Ocean and South Africa.
The MSC Cruises fleet will increase to 11 vessels by 2009: in spring 2008 the MSC Poesia, third ship in the “Musica” class. In autumn 2008 and spring 2009 respectively the MSC Fantasia and the MSC Serenata will be launched, the two largest cruise liners ever built for a European ship owner to date. MSC Cruises is the sponsor of Shosholoza and co-sponsor of Alinghi in the 32nd America’s Cup, which will take place in Valencia in June.
