Youth can make a difference! This is what led a group of youth to work towards the creation of a Malta UNESCO Youth Association that was officially established last month.
Last year a small group of young people started working towards the creation of this association made out of young people, with an aim to make a difference in the community and spread the values of UNESCO among youth and the general population.
The Malta UNESCO Youth Association (MUYA) was established on Thursday, 15th February 2007 following an Extraordinary General Meeting that officially gave birth to this new organisation.
As a result of this EGM, the first committee was elected. The committee members are: Anson D Aquilina (President), Sarah A Suda (Secretary General), Istivan Spiteri (Treasurer), Maurizio Cappitta and Joanna Bonnici.
MUYA aims to work in the field of developing culture, education, science and communication and spreading the ideas of UNESCO amongst youth and grown up population in Malta and internationally through the organisation of programmes and projects including training courses, seminars and exchanges on a national and international level and through the publishing of diverse literature.
The work of MUYA is already underway through the association’s first project focusing on cultural diversity and interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
