The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts has launched the first Euromed Festival for Composers, in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Ministry, the National Orchestra and the Manoel Theatre.

The competition is open to composers born after 30 November 1967 in the European and Mediterranean countries that are partners of the Barcelona Declaration. The submitted works should be original and should not have been publicly performed, recorded, published or awarded. The deadline for submissions is 28 August 2007.

The jury will consist of internationally acclaimed figures under the chairmanship of Professor Edward Gregson.

The finalist works will be performed by the National Orchestra on 15 December during a festival concert that will be held at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta.

The three winners will receive monetary prizes and the work awarded first prize will also be performed by the National Orchestra in a separate public concert.

The Euromed Festival for Composers is supported by the Malta Tourism Authority, the Mackintosh Foundation, Le Meridien Phoenicia, BPC, the Mediterranean Institute – University of Malta, the University Cultural Cooperative, the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic and the Euro-Mediterranean Youth Platform.
