A man who was jailed for one month, a few weeks ago, for breaching his bail conditions was jailed for two weeks yesterday and fined Lm50 after he was found guilty of threatening to kill his wife and her parents on 7 January.

Charles Brincat, 26, from Tarxien, was found guilty of threatening to kill his wife Ritienne and her parents Carmen and Angelo Camilleri and with having been in the illegal possession of a knife.

The court heard how Mr Brincat and his wife had argued at their family home in Tarxien. Mrs Brincat had packed and left for her parents’ home. Brincat had followed his wife and threatened her and her parents with a knife.

Two months later, Mr Brincat re-appeared in court charged with breaching his bail conditions after he damaged the front door of their matrimonial house. He was jailed for one month.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman jailed Brincat for two weeks and fined him Lm50. She also bound him not to approach his wife and her parents for a year against a Lm100 fine in default.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted and Dr Ludwig Caruana was counsel for the defence.
