The government is currently undertaking a project to transform a plant nursery in Cospicua, which is intended to serve as a garden and recreational park for families and will cover an area of more than 55,000 square metres.

The project is one of many others being undertaken to embellish areas in the south of Malta, particularly Cottonera.

It includes cleaning up more than 3,000 cubic metres of material in order to create a number of pathways linked to open spaces throughout the entire garden.

Efforts are being made to ensure that the original design of the nursery is not lost and existing trees will also remain untouched.

Moreover, more than 400 other trees will be planted in order to ensure that the impression of a nursery will also be preserved.

The paving, made from globigerina limestone and granite, will cover an area of more than 7,600 square metres, while the pathways that will serve as a pedestrian area in the nursery will exceed 1,000 and will be accessible to everyone.

The surrounding area of the garden, covering more than 50,000 square metres, is being enclosed by a boundary wall and a pavement that will be more than 1,700 metres long.

Various areas along the pathways will be embellished by 13 gazebos that will serve to provide an enjoyable and relaxing walk in the shade.

The garden will also contain about 80 benches and 60 rubbish bins, as well as a play area mainly consisting of modern swings equipped with a number of playing features.

As well as a new drip irrigation system, a new lighting system will also be installed, that will include uplighters and ornamental lamp posts.
