Lavinia Muscat, a Maltese woman married to an Italian, has opened a contemporary art gallery in Brescia, the “Galleria Citric”.

The gallery is holding an exhibition, “Discontinuita Narrative”, with Manuele Cerutti, Clement Page and Sara Rossi curated by Valentina Costa. Next month, the gallery will end its first season with a personal exhibition by Giuliano Guatta. In October it will host an exhibition by British artists confronting what is called hi-fi art with lo-fi art, curated by Matt Price.

Ms Muscat told Sabrina Vedovotto in an interview that she studied art and archaeology in Malta following which she worked at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and at the 2001 Biennale.

She then continued studying in Milan and relocated, together with her husband, for work reasons, to Brescia but could not find the exposure to contemporary art she had enjoyed before. After collaborating with a London magazine, she was encouraged by people around her to open an art gallery dedicated to contemporary art in Brescia where so many young people could find an opportunity to exhibit.
