The SmartCity project will definitely have an affect on business in Malta, and will ensure that Malta makes further strides towards becoming a knowledge-based economy in line with numerous policies and strategies, the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise said following the signing ceremony of the agreements to set up SmartCity Malta Ltd by Investment, Industry and IT Minister Austin Gatt and the Tecom Investments executive chairman Ahman Bin Byat.

The ceremony was attended by chamber president Victor A. Galea and director-general Kevin J. Borg.

The chamber referred to the recent meeting held with the minister on this project and reiterated that this would make Malta the EU’s flagship in ICT, supporting the internationalisation of Malta and attracting global ICT leaders to the islands.

The chamber added that the SmartCity project could have huge value-added, although this still had to be quantified.
