Tonight cinema buffs will be able to see one of the greatest movies ever shot, the original silent masterpiece The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Rupert Julian.
This is yet another screening in the Silents are Golden Series which is organized by the Manoel Theatre in collaboration with St James Cavalier.
The Phantom of the Opera was a movie that almost never got made, as it was plagued from the start by production problems.
However, it is now considered as Lon Chaney’s greatest cinematic role, as well as one of the first great horror masterpieces, and has proved an inspiration to many later versions, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical.
