Gozo Citadel Opens the first ‘Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana’

Malta Independent Wednesday, 25 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Two events, organised on a private initiative, will raise the curtain on the first Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana next month.

Held almost simultaneously at two different bastions inside the Citadel, the two events are intended to attract crowds to this year’s branded cultural event in Gozo.

Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana will be spread over three days in a bid to create a unique event that offers an additional attraction that will enhance Gozo’s tourism product. The two events that are launching this festival of culture will take place inside the Citadel, with a Wine Festival, followed by a live concert with the participation of international artist Bobby Solo.

The Wine Festival will feature local wines by Delicata Winery, as well as several artistes, with the added attraction of a view encompassing most of the island of Gozo. Admission to this event, which starts at 7.30pm, is free of charge. A performance by the Sbandieratori Ducato Caetani – Citta’ di Sermoneta will also be held during the event.

A social and casual evening, including traditional Maltese food and wine, will be followed at 9pm by a concert by Italian singer Bobby Solo with singer Vittorio Gauci, who is flying from the UK to perform as the supporting act.

Both events are being organised by MB Promotions, and all the proceeds will be going to the Arka Foundation of Gozo. Tickets can be purchased online from www.maltaticket.com or from Agenda Bookshops and Exotique.

Speaking at the launch of the two events, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said that the two events would form part of the already abundant programme of events of the first Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana.

Notwithstanding the quantity and extent of events being organised by the Gozo Ministry and the Tourism and Culture Ministry, Mrs Debono said private initiatives of a high quality were also being encouraged.

Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana will take place from Friday, 18 to Sunday, 20 May, with events held in the Citadel and at different strategic places, including the main streets and squares of Victoria.
