Malta Independent Thursday, 26 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A 32-year-old man from Mosta and an 18-year-old girl from Rabat were arrested. The police said the value of the haul was estimated at thousands of liri.

The discovery concluded days of investigations by the police after it had been established that a large quantity of ecstasy pills had been imported into Malta, and which was being kept in a Qawra apartment from where it was also being trafficked.

The police said they managed to identify the person who was keeping the drug, and this led to a search in the Qawra apartment where the 29,000 pills were found.

The pills were packed in plastic bags and ready to be sold, the police added.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera appointed several experts to help her in a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations are still underway
