The Westin Dragonara Resort has participated in creating woodland in Malta by offering an original and memorable experience to their guests.

Last year, the Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry launched a national campaign called 34U, a tree-planting programme with the participation of the public, national institutions, businesses, unions and voluntary organisations, and others.

The main aim of the campaign is to generate awareness and hence create a culture among the public in favour of trees. The 34U campaign has a wide scope – a sustainable development that strikes a balance between three inter-related objectives: stable economic growth, social development and environmental protection. This scheme will contribute to growing woodland for the citizens of Malta.

The Westin Dragonara decided to embark on this exciting project during the Easter

holidays. The 34U campaign was included in a range of new activities aimed at entertaining guests of all ages and nationalities – the School holidays brought a lot of families to the resort and the response was very enthusiastic.

People loved this off-site activity and children and parents alike enjoyed digging a hole and planting a tree in the picturesque scenery of Ta’ Qali National Park. The Westin Team and the 34U coordinators worked well together in creating great memories for our tourists: families cheerfully posed for the photo-souvenir that is included in the package, together with the tree and the name tag. One of the trees planted during Easter now belongs to a lovely two-year-old girl, and her mother cannot wait to be back to Malta and show her daughter own tree.

The Westin Dragonara Resort will carry on supporting the scheme throughout summer, by including it on a weekly basis in a Discover Programme that will delight all its customers.
