Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina went for an onsite visit at the Tac-Cawla housing estate in Victoria, to inspect an embellishment project that will cost around Lm45,000.

The project should be completed by the end of this year and involves enlarging and embellishing the playing field and bocci pitch, creating more parking bays, new pavements and general landscaping.

The project made use of over 400m of pavement, 650m2 of paving, 750m2 of tarmac, and 20 pavements, while 20 street lights were put up.

Mrs Cristina said the work was another step towards creating a better environment for the residents of the locality and its visitors.

“Due to today’s busy life, there is less time for recreation and fewer opportunities for children to play in the open as we did when we were young,” said Mrs Cristina.

The government was strengthening the available structures while creating opportunities for families to spend some time together in various relaxing activities, she added.

The minister pointed out that various localities in Malta and Gozo were being embellished, adding that this could not be done without the help and support of the local councils.

Mayor Robert Tabone said the Victoria local council was aware of the difficulties in the housing estate area of Tac-Cawla and that there was an urgent need to invest in the infrastructure to improve the quality of life of the residents.

He pointed out that all the proposed developments were mailed to each residence within the housing estate and a public consultation meeting was held to discuss the plans with the residents.
