MOC director of Youth, secretary-general of the European Judo Association, president of the Malta Judo Federation and businessman Envic Galea recently travelled to Australia to receive his Master’s degree in International Sports Management from Southern Cross University.

Galea received his Master of International Sports Management degree after a full two years of intense studying which was carried out by correspondence and examination under the supervision of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, University of Malta. The subjects included Sports Marketing and Public Relations, Event and Facility Management, Performance Management in Sport, Project Management for Sport, Industry Based Project, Sports Law and a number of research projects.

His final thesis was on the subject of Corporate Fitness, based on the way sports science developed for the elite athlete can be adapted to help top executives, as well as employees and employers, achieve a healthy lifestyle and meet everyday challenges.

Galea was so impressed with the course material covered by his degree that he has recommended that all sports administrators from the 50 European countries involved in the European Judo Union enrol in the course. “This was the only degree in the world that I could find that had a global focus on sports administration and that was offered externally,” he said.

“I have been incredibly impressed by the usefulness of the know-ledge I have gained, which has covered things like international sports and contract law, the preparation of sports handbooks, the bidding for and staging of international tournaments and championships, and international public relations. This degree certainly puts Australia in the forefront of international sports management courses.”
