Doxa watches have recently been launched in Malta by Pavilion Jewellers. The brand was founded by George Ducommun in the canton of Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1889. Within a very short time the exceptional quality of his chronometrical creations became known much further afield than the borders of the Swiss Jura region and his work was honored with prestigious prizes as early as 1905. In the 1920s, Doxa 8-day timepieces that the company patented in 1908 were built into the racing cars of the famous automobile manufacturer Bugatti.

The watch making spirit of George Ducommun lived on after his death in 1936. His son-in-law Jacques Nardin, grandson of Ulysee Nardin – founder of the watch company of the same name, took the Doxa success even further. In 1944 a wristwatch with a date pointer was developed, followed in the 1950’s by mechanical wristwatches with retrograde seconds hand. In 1967 the wristwatch collection was extended with a diver’s watch called the Doxa Sub that was endorsed in the company’s advertising by no other than the famous scientist and adventurer, Jacques Cousteau.
