The Malta Furniture Manufacturers Organisation officially opened the Working in Wood Exhibition at St James Cavalier Centre of Creativity Valletta last month. The aim of this exhibition is to promote the local woodworking industry and to show off the capability, variety and innovation that Maltese carpenters have to offer.

JDS Furniture Ltd has always believed in the above-mentioned association and for this exhibition, it manufactured a new Low Boy with the eight pointed cross on it. This piece of furniture was designed and crafted emulating old techniques using modern equipment.

This Low Boy is full of wood inlay and has been successfully manufactured by a young talented carpenter, David Sammut, who inherited his skills and talents from his father John.

John has been in the furniture manufacturing business since 1975 and has been passing on his skills to his son David since he was a young boy. Today, David is taking over his father’s job and is managing the JDS factory.

Both David and John love challenges, so when the Malta Furniture Manufacturers Association organised the exhibition to promote the craftsmanship of locally manufactured furniture, John gave David the challenge to do this wood inlay himself. With hard work and dedication he manufactured this fabulous Low Boy out of the finest solid woods, which include solid American walnut, solid Red Beech and solid Wenghe, with the eight pointed cross. He carefully placed all the pieces by hand. David was helped by his father and his dedicated employees but he did most of the hard work.

It shall also be available for sale in a limited edition and all units will be numbered and signed.
