The Court of Appeal yesterday reduced a one-year jail term imposed on a man convicted of aggravated theft to three years’ probation.
Marco Giordmaina had been jailed for one year for the theft of Lm1,000 from a house in Masrija, limits of Mellieha, on 9 August 1998. The court, presided over by Mr Justice David Scicluna, reviewed the evidence and said that the accused had compensated the victim and had also turned his life around.
He said that in this case, it would be better for society if Giordmaina were given another chance. He therefore put him on probation for three years.
