Police Commissioner John Rizzo yesterday filed a libel suit against MaltaToday editor Saviour Balzan over an opinion piece carried on last Wednesday’s newspaper edition.

The Police Commissioner filed the libel suit after he felt libelled by an article penned by Mr Balzan entitled “I’m waiting”. The libel suit was also filed against Matthew Vella, the editor of the MaltaToday mid-week edition.

The article was about the allegations of Labour Party Deputy Leader Michael Falzon who asked the Police Commissioner to investigate an anonymous email he had received.

Mr Rizzo called on the Court of Magistrates to declare that the newspaper article contained defamatory allegations about him, aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Dr Joseph Giglio signed the writ.
