Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday asked the Police Commissioner to investigate the allegations made by former Nationalist Party president Frank Portelli on corruption at the Mater Dei Hospital.
The Department of Information yesterday released a three-line letter that Dr Gonzi sent to Police Commissioner John Rizzo, asking him to investigate what “was written and said” by Dr Portelli on Mater Dei over the past days.
Dr Gonzi’s request comes also in the wake of Labour leader Alfred Sant’s call for an investigation into the matter. Dr Sant on Sunday said that Dr Portelli’s corruption allegations on the Mater Dei Hospital should be investigated.
