A ship’s captain was fined Lm1,000 yesterday after he was found guilty of entering a restricted zone with his

vessel on Friday evening.

Frank Schmidt, 46, from Denmark, pleaded guilty to navigating the vessel MT Erria Maria, of which he is the captain, into a prohibited zone at around 9.15pm on Friday.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard Schmidt plead guilty and fined him Lm1,000 after taking into consideration the fact that he had cooperated with the police and other authorities during their investigations and had filed an early guilty plea.

Police Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.
