Court: Suspended Jail term for possessing and using a false passport

Malta Independent Wednesday, 16 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A Somali was jailed yesterday for 13 months, suspended for three years, after he was found guilty of possessing and using a false passport on 5 May and before.

Maharanna Okubu Haile, 40, from Somalia, admitted having and using the false passport.

In her judgement, magistrate Doreen Clarke took into consideration the fact that the accused had filed an early guilty plea, had cooperated with the police throughout their investigations and was a first-time offender. She therefore jailed him for 13 months suspended for three years.

Police Inspector Mario Haber prosecuted.
