The children of unknown fathers since 2000 top 1,500, Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg told Labour MP Stefan Buontempo.

There were 238 in 2000, 245 in 2001, 282 in 2002, 306 in 2003, 330 in 2004 and 322 in 2005.

Email investigated by police had nothing to do with MLP internal affairs

Dr Borg told Parliament details about the police investigation into emails and letters sent to MLP officials.

Dr Borg said that in December, the police began to investigate an anonymous letter as well as an anonymous email which were received by the same MLP official at around the same time.

Dr Borg said that both the email as well as the letter do not regard internal matters inside the Labour Party but regarded the same official in his connections with the party.

Dr Borg added the police succeeded in establishing the identity of the person who had sent the email and the police investigated this person.

This person admitted s/he had sent the email but denied any responsibility in connection with the anonymous letter.

Subsequently, this person was given police bail according to the law as amended in 2002 so that this person could return and continue the interview after conclusion of the Cyber Crime Unit’s work. This police bail was renewed for six times and was removed when the investigations were concluded.

The minister denied this person was required to sign every day at the police headquarters. He also said the police bail procedure has been used for 327 times during 2006 and 119 so far this year.
