Bank of Valletta has sponsored the Dean’s List at the Faculty of Arts within the University of Malta. This year, the Dean’s List award, was won by Mark Farrugia who obtained an outstanding 110 A grades out of a total of 132. Mr Farrugia will be graduating in November 2007. This is an annual award that is presented to the students who achieve A grades in at least 80 credits during the first two years of their course. This is the eleventh year that Bank of Valletta is the sole sponsor of this academic award.

The bank’s sponsorship was presented by Carmel Borg, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s University Branch to Prof. Dominic Fenech, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta in the presence of Prof. Juanito Camilleri, Rector and Prof. Joe Friggieri, Head of Department of Philosophy.

“We are delighted to continue to support this award under the education pillar of our community programme,” said Carmel Borg during the presentation of the award. “This is one of the initiatives that Bank of Valletta has supported over the years and that is designed to promote academic excellence among the students of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta,” added Mr Borg. While congratulating Mark Farrugia on his outstanding academic record, Mr Borg said that Bank of Valletta’s business credo is focused on supporting customers to achieve success. “By sponsoring the Dean’s list, we are seeking to extend this business philosophy to the wider community in which we operate, supporting and encouraging students to reach their goals successfully,” concluded Mr Borg.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its long-term support, Prof. Fenech said “Only the very best are allowed to feature on the Dean’s list. Only students who have achieved high-percentile grades without any fails or re-sits can be included in the list. Mark Farrugia’s achievement goes way beyond the minimum requirements for being introduced to the list, making this a remarkable achievement.”

The rector added his congratulations to Mark Farrugia for his high achievement and thanked Bank of Valletta once more for its sustained support to academic excellence.
