The tourist experience at the Victoria citadel has been enhanced by the opening of a new Savina outlet.
The Savina brand was launched last year to promote products based on traditional Gozitan and Maltese recipes.
These premier products range from tomato-based delicacies to liqueurs, from hand-made scented candles to lace and woodwork.
They are beautifully, yet traditionally, presented and are totally in keeping with the ambiance of the cathedral.
These products are also available from the Savina Creativity Centre in Xewkija, which is next to the Magro Brothers factory. At the centre, visitors can watch many of the products being made, enjoy a multi-media presentation on the Savina brand and sample many of the products.
“Once the Savina range had grown enough. we began to look for suitable outlets that would complement its quality and style,” said managing director John Magro.
“The cathedral’s visitor centre is ideal. Situated below the church, and surrounded by Roman walls and foundations from the Hal Saflieni period, it is the absolutely perfect location for our high-quality products. We were also very impressed by the innovative audio guide service being offered,” he added.
Last year, in a partnership with Explore Malta Ltd, the cathedral introduced the very latest audio guides. Available in five languages – Maltese, English, Italian, French and German – these have proved to be extremely popular with tourists. The guide covers the cathedral, the cathedral museum and various points around the Citadel.
Savina is currently evaluating a number of other venues for its products in Malta and Gozo.
