Bugibba Entrepreneurs complain

Malta Independent Sunday, 27 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

During his visit to Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay, Labour leader Alfred Sant heard many complaints voiced by the area’s entrepreneurs.

Owners of various establishments in Bugibba said the recent closure of hotels and the general lack of tourists in the area is having a negative impact on their business.

Others pointed out there are so few attractions that tourists in hotels in the locality prefer to spend their time outside the area.

Yet others complained that while Bugibba is near the sea, there is a dearth of sandy beaches.

The roads should be better lit at night and there must be big improvements in general cleanliness and orderliness.

Some of those who spoke to the Labour leader said that while each year one thinks that things wouldn’t be as bad as the preceding year, they find that things can and do get worse.

As part of his Bugibba tour, Dr Sant walked in front of a hotel that is boarded up and showing all signs of neglect and worse.

Dr Sant said that the party is listening to all these complaints and it is preparing an action plan not just for the area but for tourism in general.
